Shichi-Go-San is a cherished tradition honoring the well-being of children at ages three, five, and seven. Each year, Shofuso Japanese House & Garden becomes the setting for a limited portrait program by KiraKira Artistry in collaboration with Tamiko Laincz. These fully coordinated sessions offer the comprehensive services traditionally available in Japan—including authentic kimono rental, styling, and fine-art portraiture—welcoming families of all backgrounds to experience this meaningful milestone.
To honor the spirit of childhood, we reserve only one session per day, allowing your child the time and space to move naturally and simply be themselves. We embrace this energy, working with their unique rhythm to capture portraits that are both polished and profoundly authentic. Every image is meticulously refined to ensure a perfectly presented kimono and a timeless aesthetic, creating an heirloom that will be treasured for generations.

Step 03
On the day of your session, you will check in at Shofuso and proceed to the dressing room at your reserved time. The celebrant and any family members who have selected kimono dressing will be professionally prepared. Hair and makeup services, if selected, will take place during this preparation time as well.
Arrival & Dressing
Step 04
Enjoy a guided portrait session throughout the house and gardens of Shofuso, including reserved areas not typically accessible during public hours. Children are guided in posing, and kimono adjustments are made throughout the session to ensure your kimono remains beautiful moment to moment.

Step 05
After your portraits, return to the dressing room to change, then linger in the gardens. Feed the koi, stroll the paths, and take in the beauty of Shofuso and Fairmount Park as a family. The Please Touch Museum is just steps away, offering a lovely way to extend your celebration.
After the Portraits
Step 06
Within two weeks, your proof gallery is delivered for selection. Once chosen, each image receives final retouching, including thoughtful kimono adjustments when needed. Heirloom print pieces can also be selected and designed at this stage and typically arrive within four weeks.

Preserving the Moment, Perfecting the Details
Children move naturally throughout their celebration, and garments may shift between moments. We guide gently during the session and make adjustments as needed, but we never interrupt a joyous moment for the sake of perfection.
In retouching, we do not compromise. Kimono structure is restored, lines are corrected, and visual distractions are thoughtfully removed. Whether it is a shifted collar, favorite sneakers replaced with zori, or a busy background refined to quiet elegance, each portrait is finished with care so your child remains beautifully presented and the true focus of the scene.
